Where does the first human come from? A young researcher wants to solve this exiting riddle: The secret of our origin, on the scout of the real cradle of humanity. Our film team composed of Sebastian Scherer, Nils Gabelgaard and Felix Meinhardt takes you to one of the most remote urban region in the world. If you have a look on our digital world, than we face our own Kalahari Desert: a vast landscape of products. Are there any environmentally friendly products or do we only watch for a better lifestyle? Can we resist the stain of the technical process? Or is there a secret of the dessert that we can learn from?
My visual draft for this staging of the past was, to reconstruct the living environment of the first human, documental as well as scenic. To underline the authentic atmosphere the camera stayed as close as possible on the characters. The images should be in the style of BBC or National Geographic productions. The film was shot with the Arri Alexa and the Red Epic in Cinemascope.
The film has won the Caligari Award 2013. You can find more information about the formation of the project, production notes or about the workflow on the press handout (Cinearte Digital Production)
The photo spread arose as a by-product during the shooting of the film project FIRST MAN. The pictures show the result of a very personal encounter with a foreign human world: fantasies, hopes and visions.
The longer you are going to look at them, the more they are going to reveal: admiration, frighten and astonishment about our world.
